Genesis 4 Cain and Abel, Where Did Cain Get His Wife?

A. God told Adam and Eve what they must do when they came to worship Him.

Genesis 3:21     To Adam and to his wife the Lord God did make coats of skins and clothed them.

Leviticus 17:11     For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you on the altar to make an atonement for your souls: because it is the blood that makes an atonement for the soul.

Hebrews 9:22b     …without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.

B. Both Cain and Abel came to offer sacrifices to God.

C. Abel’s offering was accepted by God.

Read Genesis 4:4

Hebrews 11:4     By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaks.

Hebrews 11:6     But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he who comes to God must believe that God is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

NOTE: It was not the blood but the faith behind the action of doing what God had instructed… what God had said was the only acceptable way to come to Him.

Hebrews 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

D. Cain’s offering was rejected by God.

Read Genesis 4:5

Hebrews 11:6 (see above)       Hebrews 10:4 (see above)

Leviticus 3:16     And the priest shall burn them on the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savor: all the fat is the Lord’s.

E. God has not changed. He is still the same today.

God still stipulates the only way anyone can come to Him.

John 14:6     Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12     Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Genesis 4:6-26

Genesis 4:6-7 God reasons with angry Cain. God spoke to Cain.

Genesis 4:8 Cain refused to listen to God, and he killed Abel.

John 3:12     Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
