Genesis 29:31-35  
When the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben.

Leah: Surely the Lord has looked on my affliction; therefore my husband will now love me.

Leah conceived again and bore a son.

Leah: Because the Lord has heard that I was hated, he has therefore given me this son also.

She called his name Simeon.

Leah conceived again and bore a son.

Leah: Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have born him three son.

Therefore was his name called Levi.

Leah conceived again and bore a son.

Leah: Now will I praise the Lord.

Therefore she called his name Judah and left bearing.

More Children 

Genesis 30:1-13

When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister.

Rachel (to Jacob): Give me children, or else I die.

Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel.

Jacob: Am I in God’s stead, who has withheld the fruit of the womb from you?

Rachel: Go in to my maid Bilhah; and she shall give birth on my behalf, that I may have children by her. (ESV)

So Rachel gave Bilhah her handmaid to Jacob to wife: and Jacob went in to her. Bilhah conceived, and bore Jacob a son.

Rachel: God has judged me and has also heard my voice and has given me a son.

Therefore Rachel called his name Dan.

Bilhah Rachel’s maid conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.

Rachel: I wrestled with my sister with great wrestlings, and I have prevailed.

 And Rachel called his name Naphtali.

When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid and gave her to Jacob to wife.

 Zilpah Leah’s maid bore Jacob a son.

Leah: A troop comes.

Leah called his name Gad.

Zilpah Leah’s maid bare Jacob a second son.

Leah: I happy, for the daughters will call me blessed.

Leah called his name Asher.

The Mandrakes (vs 14-16)

In the days of wheat harvest, Reuben went and found mandrakes in the field and brought them to his mother Leah.

Rachel (to Leah): Give me some of your son’s mandrakes.

Leah: Is it a small matter that you have taken my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes also?

Rachel: Jacob shall lie with you to night for your son’s mandrakes.

Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him.

Leah: You must come in to me; for surely I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.

And Jacob lay with Leah that night.

Who had control of where Jacob slept? Rachel

More Children (vs 17-24)

God hearkened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.

Leah: God has given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband.

Leah called his name Issachar.

Leah conceived again, and bore Jacob a sixth son.

Leah: God has endued me with a good dowry. Now my husband will dwell with me, because I have born him six sons.

Leah called his name Zebulun.

Afterwards Leah bore a daughter and called her name Dinah.

God remembered Rachel and hearkened to her and opened her womb.

Rachel conceived, and bore a son.

Rachel: God has taken away my reproach.

She called his name Joseph.

Rachel: The Lord shall add to me another son.
