Genesis 21a Sarah Gave Birth to Isaac, Hagar and Ishmael Sent Away

Sarah Gave Birth (vs 1-8)
The Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. (Genesis 17:21)

Abraham called the name of his son that was born to him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.

Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. (Genesis 17:12)

Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born to him. (Sarah was 90 years old. Genesis 17:17.)

Sarah: God has made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? For I have born him a son in his old age.

The child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.

Hagar and Ishmael Sent Away (vs 9-21)
Sarah saw Ishmael, the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born to Abraham, mocking.

Sarah (to Abraham): Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son Isaac.

The thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son Ishmael.

God (to Abraham): Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the lad, and because of your bondwoman. Listen to her voice in all that Sarah has said to you; for in Isaac shall your seed be called. And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is your seed.

Abraham rose up early in the morning. He took bread and a bottle of water and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder and the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer–sheba.

Ishmael was 13 years old when he was circumcised the year before Isaac was born. (Genesis 17:25)

When the water was spent in the bottle, she cast the child under one of the shrubs. And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot.

Hagar: Let me not see the death of the child.

And she lifted up her voice and wept.

God heard the voice of the lad.

The angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven.

The angel: What ails you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in your hand; for I will make him a great nation.

God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went and filled the bottle with water and gave the lad drink.

God was with the lad; and he grew and dwelt in the wilderness of Paran and became an archer. And his mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.

Abraham and Abimelech (vs 22-34)
